I buy, sell and collect parts. Mostly older solid state
technology. For 1970s and 1980s type of equipment.

I sell to tinkerers, amateur repair people, ham radio
people (of course-(Iam VE3AB afterall !) and even CB
operators (there's always hope they will convert over
to ham radio)! -- Me..? I don't discriminate!!
No pressure here... I have taken early retirement
option from a job in/near Ottawa, Ontario Canada and
Ive moved to Elliot Lake, On a retirement town.

Ive been doing this now since 2005 when I retired early. I'm slowly
building up a great number of satisfied customers
--->>I do this as a "hobby that gives me satifaction" <<<<
I'm in the market to buy broken down HF radios for
parting out purposes. Also if they are fixable..I can fix
them and sell them as USED RADIOs
email me this link
The Radios I work on now and stock parts for:

**TT Argonaut 505,509, 515 I have all of these working and a couple I need to fix up/restore and I have all the semi-
conductors
Note that..the Argonaut is a sacred cow! I do not part them out..they can always be repaired!
** Yaesu FT301 (circuit card repairs by mail) -- (the whole radio is too heavy/big to send in the mail) - I have 5 FT301s
---FT221 (circuit cards by mail) I have 2 working FT221s
**
Atlas 210x - I have 1 good one and 2 for parts
** Just starting to gear up for the Ten Tec Argosy - I have some of the semiconductors in stock
** converters/transverters and ham accessories..ie Heathkit stuff is pretty easy to work on

---CONSULTATION AND HELPs to fix your rig your-self. I do it by email and analysis..so if you get stuck..you can ask me for
help and/or even send me the parts to test/whatever.. $10 per hour sort of deal..and Im not strict about it.

email me and we can do a free estimate and consultation..

I used to live in Clayton Ontario..and I just kept the email as is..I now live in Elliot Lake, Ontario..north of Michigan State and
Lake Huron.

I always faithfully answer my emails.

I am retired from a civil service job from Ottawa area and I do these activities as retirement activities. I moved to Elliot Lake
in 2005 (a retirement town).

I test my PARTS (whenever I can)  Shown right pictured is my logic test
jig..(a Heathkit Logic Lab). I wired up a test jig to test some Hewlett Packard
displays for a fellow who wanted 5 in Italy. (My price was a most reasonable
$7 for each part) and postage was about $7)- This is typical of my low cost
services. I work from home on my own time (semi-retired).
***** IF YOU HAVE PARTS YOU WANT TESTED... I CAN DO THAT TOO! - any
work $10 per hour bench rate and I'm not all that strict about that. Helps
buy the odd ham accessory.
USED and Tested Good Parts for older Solid
State Radios and accessories. (

This HR10B was rusted out at the bottom. I picked it up
to use as a parts rig - I do have some tubes and parts. I
still have about 400 tubes..but I'm trying to specialize in
solid state gear and electronics from the 1970s and 80s.
I TEST MY PARTS..whereever possible!
Many if not almost all ebay sellers won't
test their parts nor will they give you
details on parts like the part numbers in
some cases!
ME...I give you all I can. I even guarantee
certain used parts I cannot test.
My small
basement shop has to try harder!!!!

see this page: ft301aade for the whole story on
this project
I only had 4 of these old RCA 2N270s and they were
bought from me (pretty quickly). -- If you have old parts
like these..Id be interested in swinging a deal. I have a
Ten Tec Argonaut 505 for trade or cash! I sold them for
about $7 or $8 tested. Lower than ebay sellers by far!
sold out !
sold out !
Im sold out of these TIL 306s and 308s as well. I
was selling for $8 to $10 used tested!
I sold about 20 of them. Use AADE display! I found
the AADE display ..fairly easy to put into the FT301.
testing the drive and power output from the argonaut 505 stages
while trouble shooting a rig that someone sent me in the mail. The
fault turned out to be the coupling capacitor right at the antenna
connector of the rig! See the pictures below of the problem
capacitors I found in this Argonaut 505.
MAIN FAULT in argonaut 505 (low power
output) turned out to be the coupling
capacitor!!! SIMPLE?!
Re-capping an argonaut 505 audio board. Also fixing one
w/bad AF IC. -- To be truthful.. the electrolytic capacitors that I
took out of the 505 while re-capping..did have some ESR
measured but generally it was less than an ohm -- so the
re-capping of this 1974 vintage rig could have waited a few
more years in my opinion.
A bad batch .022 uf tropical fish capacitors in an argonaut 505. -- The leads replacing them here and there. I had some
good quality glass capacitors that I used and I have ordered more "orange drops" (100 volt types in various values) to
replace others while re-capping old radios. It was just the .022 uf caps that had the cracking problem. The other
"tropical fish"capacitors of other values looked fine and I left them alone.
I was going to run some tests on these faulty capacitors but
desoldering them from the circuit board ruined them. Quite a few of
these in the 509 I was working on had cracks forming along one
lead.
I do have one modern radio..an IC-718! Here I am
installing the ICOM CW filter. Went pretty well. As for
component level repairs to these radios (a) I dont have
modern surface mount components b) I wouldnt tackle
any one elses but mine..in case I slipped with the
soldering iron.
HERE I work on an FT101E for someone else. AADE display
being installed and some general maintenance. NOTE: I had some
problems w/AADE display and the FT101. It is a challenge! - The
FT301 AADE installation went far easier. I could not get this AADE
display to work in the FT101E..sent it back to AADE for testing!!!
The trick of getting the spring tension off the dial shaft with the
Argonauts 505-515..I use a piece of fishing line..it works! The Ten Tec
manuals for these radios shows how to make a special tool for getting
the tension off the dial skirt spring..but I have been using fishing line
with good sucess.
Testing E.S.R. of electrolytic capacitors with my little
tester. Seems to work good!
Above and below pictured: I do buy and collect old parts as well. Sometimes they come in boxes I buy at ham radio flea markets. If you are a hobbyist
and need some old part for an old microprocessor project or old RTL chip or DTL chip (people have written me for these the odd time)..what I do..is
I sell you the part (for much lower than ebay prices..
.TRY IT ON THE GENTLEMANS AGREEMENT. Try it in your project or circuit. IF it works great! IF it
doesnt work..
I will give you a refund. Thats about all I can do with these older computer type parts. MY HONOUR SYSTEM for older chips like these!
You won't get that from the ebay sellers!!!

I work from home..24/7 and casual
sort of schedule..semi retired!
I always answer my emails..usually quite
promptly..but come warmer weather..I go
fishing and do outdoorsy kinds of things..but I
will be sure to write you back!! -- Check out
the Herman Munster ham radio clip on
youtube and some other ham radio clips as
well! -- If you are interested in the hobby and
want more information.. just write me
earlinclayton@yahoo.com
Okay, Earl.  Got it.  You are one brave son-of-gun putting in that readout.
:-) Jim..
(one of my followers and he writes me from time to time)-- YES..it takes
a bit of work alright! -- I sent the circuit board bk to AADE for testing. My
AADE in the FT301 was as easy as falling off a log compared to this
one! I WILL be pubishing the rest of the FT101E/AADE digital dial
saga..when I get back to it later spring 2013.
With the AADE displays..they are often mounted in the spot
where the old digital display was mounted (as in FT301) or
where the old numbered dial skirt was physically located.
Takes a bit of rework of the plastic front panel bezel. Another
option..mount it in a small enclosure on top of the rig.
This is my biggest fish yet! A 20 pound Northern Pike. I caught this
one within minutes of the city of Elliot Lake. Iam in the process of
starting up a fishing and general interest web site called:
www.earlandrews.info (just getting it up and running)
June 29-1963 (a 10 year old Earl
caught his first Pike..Clayton/Taylor
Lake near Ottawa.
The TLC274N are used in a popular active filter called the HI PER MITE.
I damaged one of my chips and I bought some extras to sell for my inventory. The
parts I buy and stock are heavily oriented towards ham radio projects and fixing ham
radio/solid state communications equipment that uses older technology like
discrete components and basic ICs.
Totally one man shop! Mostly..I fix my own
stuff I buy..BUT..I try and help out others as
well.. this is especially TRUE for newer hams
just starting out ..who need advice on a rig
or a repair. You can write me for advice and
if I do a repair..only $10/hr bench rate!
Small Parts (like below: ICs, transistors, diodes,
resistors, capacitors, miscellaneous as well.. I'm
here when you don't want to make up a BIG
ORDER. - I also do small repairs - $10hr. MAIL
ORDER and I go to some ham flea marktes too!
By GENTLEMANS AGREEMENT and on the
honour system. I guarantee my parts I
sell.
only one refund and one problem in
the about 500 or so transactions Ive
done since 2005!!
Some old and OBSOLETE parts from the 1970s and 80s
ect.. you can buy them from AFTERMARKET
DISTRIBUTORS ..but they charge alot. IF you buy some of
these old parts from me..I GIVE YOU A MONEY BACK
GUARANTEE. try them and if they dont work in  your
circuit..I will refund you 100 percent! I sell these untested
parts much less than ebay or the after market guys.
My $10/hr bench rate for
older equipment repairs is
about the lowest around!
sold at the
flea market !
Check out YOU TUBE..for many ham radio videos.
There are thousands of them! Also..Herman Munster
